The Belfast Banking Co. Was formed with 337 shareholders on 2 July 1827, by a merger of the then two remaining private banks in Belfast, Batts (The Belfast Bank, in business since 1808) and Tennants (The Commercial Bank). It was organised on similar lines to the Northern Banking Co. And commenced business on 1 August 1827. The Belfast Banking Company & the Northern Banking Company were both Northern Ireland institutions that merged in 1970 to form what is now known as the Northern Bank Limited (part of Danske Bank, Denmark). It is impressive to see such note from such time survive in PERFECT condition!
